Regarding current drops...
This should be it's own thread I guess...
I just got to the Grotto where the 15K armor chunks are for the first time. Haven't been playing long enough for massive wealth or to have been spoiled by drops of gold raining down, so for me "nerfed" drops are more the standard than the outrage. From this perspective, I like the way they are now. Yeah, my ranger is running around with his Icy Short bow of Crap, but he's doing OK, and should I come across something better... well, it'll mean something more than running to the corner trader and buying one. Same with the 75K armor set... I may never wind up with the set, but knowing that my 7.5K armor is just as good makes that ok, and each piece of 15K armor chunk I do commit to buy will be significant.
So let me ask you this.. if the drops were always as they are now (rate, quantity, etc)... well, go with it from here...

No one wants to consider this? C'mon folks... if drops always occured at the current rate, stepping back and looking at it fresh, how would you like things today?
75K Armor would be a goal, an elusive item, not an expectation, for example.
People are so quick to complain about reduced drop rates... dare to think differently now.

I'd rather have a life than do what it takes to amass that much gold (before or after the patches) for armor that is worthless...

So it wouldn't be a big deal to you then if you had the expensive armor when there's identical stat armor for 1/10th the cost?
How about the state of the economy... what do you think current conditions would be like if drops/drop rates were always as they are now?

I have a life, and I've managed to get a set of 15k bonelace for my necromancer (4 pieces is easier than 5), the 15k plate cuirass and leggings for my warrior, and I have about 25k saved up towards more for someone. Maybe the 15k druid's or geomancer armor. I have passed Ascension with 4 of my 6 characters, working towards it with the other 2 now.
I do farm, but not overly much. I have an area where I can probably make 2-2.5 platinum an hour. I don't do it for more than an hour at any one time, and sometimes (especially working on the other characters that still have to Ascend) I'll end up skipping a day between trips. If I do it 4 days out of the week, that's 8-10 platinum.
The 15k armor looks good for the most part, and it gives something to do with the money that accumulates. Once you have a max. damage weapon, your highest armor-rated armor, and the runes you'll need, what else is there to spend money on? I'm sure I could eventually get enough for Fissure armor, but given the drop rate of the ectoplasm (in my experience), I'm not even considering that now. So, I'm aiming for 15k sets...
